It was in the late 1970's, and early 80's that our founder Dr. C.E Muralidhar, an accomplished academic veteran of Botany, who was among the pioneers in the field of clonal propagation of plants; formulated and standardised specific tissue culture media to revive plants of economic importance through cloning techniques. Having presented his findings in as many as 32 universities across the globe, he modified and applied similar concepts to revive rare species of medicinal plants that had definite therapeutic values. His newfound knowledge needed an arena for better expression, and Ayurveda had all the attributes of a clinical science to launch it. Vedic sciences were linked to modern methods in collaboration with reputed āyurvedāchāryas of South India and the Department of Solid State Physics, Bangalore University. Under the able guidance of Dr R Chandramani Ph.D., a senior professor, could evolve fingerprint techniques through UV, IR and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance analysis to identify medicinal herbs in their various forms like fresh, dry, powdered, extracts, etc

and to standardise them and convert into therapeutically active compound poly-herbal formulations. These were his pioneering efforts that gave birth to a new stream of academic research in Bangalore University under UGC, an applied science that he termed 'Applied Medicinal Botany'. In-vitro studies, clinical trials, and finally medical camps were conducted in a programmed manner to document statistically and clinically relevant data. He profoundly influenced the learning of ancient and modern processes and shaped the practice methods of physicians of Prasida. The very same scientific temper and inter-disciplinary approach is adapted to liaise between modern diagnostic methods and ancient principles to ensure the patient has been benefitted both, subjectively and objectively. As a tribute to the founder, two clinics in his memory and named as Prasida ( प्रसीद : Derived from Sanskrit and pronounced as Praseeda; meaning Divine Grace) humbly began in the Salt Lake City, Calcutta. Prasida is currently in its 12th year of successful operations. |
